ENCHANTING MOUNT DORA
Mount Dora
We spent a relaxing day ambling around the old fashioned charming lakeside town of Mount Dora, Lake County. An undiscovered gem by many and only 25 miles from Orlando.
Filled with quaint craft and antique shops, art galleries, ice-cream parlours and fantastic restaurants we decided to taste the delights of a French restaurant, enjoy the wonderful food and watch the world go by.
There are boat tours on the lake which unfortunately were not running at the time we visited, a good reason for us to return. You can rent canoes, pontoon and power boats to soak up the beautiful scenery from.
There are plenty of events arranged throughout the year ranging from an Antique Festival towards the end of March, Music Festival in February, Sail Boat Regatta in April to a Wacky Car Club parade in August along with Food Festivals and a Christmas Street Party at the end of the year.
The new DANIEL WEBSTER WESTERN BELTWAY (TOLL 429) which has recently opened off the 192 is perhaps a quicker way to reach it which takes you up towards Apopka.
Perhaps not such a popular day out for the children compared with the thrill of the theme parks, but for a break away into a different type of world, well worth a look.
